We will look to our Chief Executive to provide visible and inspirational leadership across the full spectrum of the Council’s work.
Looking within, that means that there is clarity of direction and purpose in the organisation and that all staff understand how their contribution connects to our overarching strategic objectives for East Lothian. You’ll work closely with elected councillors to define organisational priorities, offering clear advice and evidence to inform decision-making and then working through your senior management team to embed these into organisational practice.
Looking outwards, you will continue to build on the excellent partnerships that are supporting the ongoing growth, prosperity and wellbeing of East Lothian. This will see you working with key partners in Health, Education the Voluntary Sector and others, to ensure a collaborative approach that draws on the expertise within different organisations to deliver the best outcomes for the people of East Lothian. And you’ll ensure that effective community engagement informs and refines our work, and facilitate greater community empowerment and resilience.
It’s essential that you can harness the opportunities that East Lothian’s growth agenda presents. It is expected that our population will grow by almost 20% in the coming 20 years, and we have well developed plans in place to ensure that this growth is managed and sustainable, and that our growing community thrives. You’ll ensure that we capitalise on the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region deal to attract businesses, jobs, skills and visitors to the area.
We expect that you’ll offer considerable strategic leadership experience in an organisation of similar scope and complexity, and that you can quickly establish credibility and trust with colleagues, councillors and a wide range of external partners. Outcome focused, you’ll bring a highly developed understanding of how effective performance management and governance can support improvement, ensure accountability and deliver value for money. Your leadership skills will be key: we want our new Chief Executive to encourage innovation and to empower others to excel – in order to maintain the highest standards of service provision, while identifying and delivering efficiencies.
